After months of speculation, Netflix has officially confirmed that its record-breaking animated musical KPop Demon Hunters will receive a sequel. Following its remarkable debut, the fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X is set to return, though fans will need to wait until 2029 for its release.
Produced by Sony and released by Netflix, the film quickly became a global phenomenon. Since its premiere in June, it has accumulated over 325 million views, making it the most-watched movie in Netflix history.
Breaking boundaries for the platform, KPop Demon Hunters also had a theatrical run, earning 24.4 million USD across standard screenings and special “sing-along” showings.
The film’s soundtrack has taken the music industry by storm. The album reached the top spot on Billboard charts, alongside its hit single “Golden.”
Merchandising deals with Hasbro and Mattel have been finalized, paving the way for themed dolls and action figures to hit stores soon.
