This home-grown wonderkid has been locked down by the Jets for another two seasons

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder Will Dobson is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the A-League. The Newcastle Jets have secured his services until the end of the 2027-28 season, showing their faith in his potential.

Contract extension and club confidence

Dobson made his A-League debut just over a year ago but impressed Jets coach Mark Milligan enough to earn a contract upgrade and extension. Initially signed on a two-year scholarship at the start of last season, he has been promoted to a full A-League contract with an additional two years added.

"We are delighted that we have been able to secure 'Dobbo' until 27-28," Milligan said. "Will is a local player that embodies what it means to be from the region and play for his home team. He has a fantastic work ethic and has so much growth in him. Local fans should be excited to see him progress as a player and person over the coming years."

Player background and achievements

A product of the Jets academy and a Belmont Football Club junior, Dobson turned 18 in September. He debuted in the A-League in round one of last season as a substitute against Melbourne City. Throughout the 2024-25 season, he made 12 appearances and started once.

Dobson also played a key role in the Jets' Australia Cup-winning campaign, contributing both a goal and an assist in the quarter-final match against Macarthur FC.

Summary

Will Dobson’s contract extension reflects the Newcastle Jets’ commitment to nurturing local talent and highlights his bright future in professional football.
