Hull Ready to Welcome World-Class Rugby League Event in 2026

Hull is set to host one of rugby league’s premier events as the Betfred World Club Challenge will take place at the MKM Stadium in 2026. The announcement has sparked excitement across the city and among sports fans nationwide.

Excitement from City Leadership

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “After interest from Qatar, Australia, and other UK cities, we are delighted another world-class event is coming to Hull, with the prestigious Betfred World Club Challenge heading to the MKM Stadium.”

Ross emphasized that when the 25,000-seat community stadium opened in 2002, it was with the ambition of attracting major international sporting events. That vision will be realized again when Hull’s treble-winning Robins face the NRL champions, the Brisbane Broncos, in February next year.

The event follows Hull KR’s recent homecoming celebration, which drew around 30,000 fans into the streets to cheer their team. The city’s strong rugby culture is expected to shine once more as supporters gather to witness top-level play and a vibrant atmosphere.

Ross added: “We look forward to hosting rugby fans from around the country, and of course the Broncos players, staff, and supporters travelling from the other side of the world. You’ll be given a very warm and friendly Hull welcome from the greatest rugby league city in the world.”
