Ceremonies are planned in several local cities to honor Remembrance Day and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served. On November 11, most federal services and federally regulated businesses such as banks and the postal service will be closed.
On Friday, November 7, at 11:30 a.m., an event will be held at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King St., to commemorate Indigenous Veteran’s Day.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton said in a news release.
The event at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by light refreshments and snacks featuring Indigenous flavors. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.
The city's garrison parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. on November 9, followed by a service at 10:45 a.m. The parade involves Hamilton veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps starting at John Foote V.C. N. and proceeding south to Gore Park on King Street East. The service will be held at Gore Park’s Veteran’s Place.
Note: Further activities are scheduled leading up to and on November 11 in these cities.
Summary: Local ceremonies in Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford recognize the sacrifices of veterans, including a special Indigenous event and parades honoring military service.
