For Danish army, the threat to Greenland isn’t Trump but Russia

Threat to Greenland: Russia, Not Trump

Interest in Greenland's mineral potential has grown since Trump suggested buying the territory, home to many critical minerals.

Private Mads Hansen, one of three Danish soldiers stationed at Mestersvig, a former mining outpost in eastern Greenland, shares his experience:

"You get used to it,"
he said, while showing off the base's snowplows.

Hansen's role includes maintaining the base and training sled dogs. However, he and his colleagues are becoming familiar with a new aspect of their life in the Arctic: supporting an expanded military presence as part of a broader defensive build-up directed at Russia.

The station, along with much of Greenland's eastern flank, is set to play a bigger role in this effort.
