Tonga's coach, Kristian Woolf, stated that the upcoming Pacific Cup match is the "best example of what the two nations bring to the sport of rugby league" and should lead to greater "respect" and resourcing.
Samoa's counterpart, Ben Gardiner, backed these claims, with both teams pointing to issues beyond pay, including travel and off-field conditions.
The Suncorp Stadium match is expected to draw more than 45,000 spectators.
