I’ve been asked to “step out of retirement” for one important assignment, and I’m hoping you can help with it.
Although I’m not fully retired since leaving my time as head of Catholic Charities, I spend about 20 hours a week at John’s College High School. I also love my busy sacramental ministry of Baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and being part of the community at St. Bart’s Parish in Bethesda.
This new assignment involves helping with the archdiocese's development. After Cardinal McElroy's arrival last March, he addressed the serious financial issues and has done a magnificent job putting us on the right track, even balancing the budget for the coming year.
Due to economic reasons, staff at the Pastoral Center had to be reduced. However,
Cardinal McElroy also spoke with some of our major donors to ask for help, and they responded with their usual generosity.
