Typhoon Kalmaegi has resulted in at least 114 deaths and 127 people reported missing across the Philippines, primarily in the central region still recovering from an earthquake.
The central province of Cebu experienced the majority of fatalities. The typhoon triggered flash floods and caused a river and other waterways to overflow, severely impacting the area.
Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, deputy administrator of the Office of Civil Defense, reported, "Most of the deaths were in Cebu due to flash floods and overflowing rivers caused by Kalmaegi."
Kalmaegi moved away from western Palawan province into the South China Sea before noon Wednesday and was heading toward Vietnam.
"Typhoon #Kalmaegi is strengthening again after crossing the islands of the Philippines.Winds are 185 km/h and its intensity will likely continue to increase before it strikes Vietnam in the next 24 hours."
Among the dead, six people were killed when a Philippine Air Force helicopter crashed in the southern province of Agusan del Sur on Tuesday.
