Alex Vesia, pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is grieving the death of his infant daughter, Sterling Sol, who passed away just two days after it was announced he would not participate in the World Series.
"Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always," Alex and his wife, Kayla, shared on Instagram. "Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her."
The Dodgers confirmed Vesia would be absent from the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays due to a "deeply personal family matter." Both teams honored the Vesias by acknowledging the 29-year-old pitcher's No. on the field during games.
The Vesias expressed heartfelt thanks to the Dodgers and Blue Jays organizations for their support:
"Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them."
They also thanked Dodger Nation, the Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for their overwhelming messages of love and support, which brought them comfort during this difficult time.
The family extended special gratitude to the hospital staff who cared for them, describing them as "truly so incredible."
Summary: Alex Vesia and his family are deeply mourning the loss of their baby daughter while receiving strong support from the baseball community and medical staff.
