Substitute Jae-Sung Lee scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Mainz overturned a one-goal deficit to defeat Fiorentina, extending their perfect start to three wins in the UEFA Conference League.
Building on earlier victories over Omonia Nicosia and Zrinjski Mostar, Mainz began confidently but were punished after Danny Costa's misplaced pass. Fiorentina capitalized when Simon Sohm struck accurately from the edge of the area.
Goalkeeper Robin Zentner denied Roberto Piccoli from doubling the visitors’ advantage, while Kacper Potulski made a crucial defensive stop just before halftime.
Piccoli spurned another good chance soon after the restart. Mainz responded through substitute Benedikt Hollerbach, who led and finished a flowing team move only minutes after coming on.
Fiorentina’s Moise Kean missed a golden opportunity, heading over from close range. The miss proved costly as Mainz sealed victory deep into added time when Jae-Sung Lee headed Kaishu Sano’s precise cross into the net.
Lady Luck was clearly shining on the home side, who snatched all three points when Lee headed in fellow sub Kaishu Sano's cross in the fifth minute of added time.
Mainz will face Universitatea Craiova in Romania on 27 November for their next European match.
A stunning late comeback saw Mainz overcome Fiorentina 2–1, with Jae-Sung Lee’s stoppage-time header preserving their flawless UEFA Conference League run.
