Mexican Authorities Suspect Jalisco Cartel Involvement in Mayor's Death

Mexican authorities suspect that Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan, was killed by the Jalisco Cartel, according to a new report.

The investigation links the killing to the capture of a local leader, Rene Belmonte, by police in August. Belmonte was a close subordinate of the Alvarez Ayala brothers, top leaders in the Jalisco Cartel.

Violence spiked in the region following the arrest, including attacks on local police officers. A source also stated that the gunman, a young man between 17 and 19 years old, was connected to the cartel and was killed immediately after the shooting.
