Harry Houdini's Death

On October 31, 1926, celebrated magician Harry Houdini died of peritonitis in a Detroit hospital.

According to history.com, twelve days prior to his death, Houdini was talking to a group of students in Montreal when he mentioned the strength of his stomach muscles.

He commented on their ability to withstand hard blows.

Suddenly, one of the students punched Houdini twice in the stomach, rupturing his appendix. Houdini fell ill on the train to Detroit and was hospitalized after performing one last time.

Despite the doctors' operation, it was to no avail.
