BMA slams ‘indefensible’ pay offer

BMA Criticizes Pay Offer

The British Medical Association (BMA) has condemned the Government's proposed 2.5% pay increase for doctors in 2026 as "indefensible".

The Department for Health and Social Care stated that this increase is feasible without compromising key health commitments.

Government offering ‘neglect dressed up as restraint’

However, with current RPI inflation at 4.5%, the BMA argues that this proposal amounts to a real-terms pay cut for doctors. Newly qualified doctors would see a meager hourly pay rise of 47p, from £18.62 to £19.09.

Author's summary: BMA rejects 2.5% pay offer as indefensible.
