Wayfarers Accessibility Project

The Wayfarers accessibility project aims to create new pathways for outdoor recreation.

Western Montana is revered for its monumental peaks and vast valleys, making it an ideal location for outdoors enthusiasts. However, for thousands of Montanans living with disabilities, accessing these landscapes can be a challenge.

For example, Kalispell resident Erin Hoch rarely visits state parks due to the lack of accessibility. Her son, Jaxen Flores, uses a wheelchair because of a rare genetic disorder called infantile pompe. The family struggles to find trails and facilities that accommodate Jaxen's mobility needs.

Accessing treasured landscapes can be a challenge for thousands of Montanans living with disabilities.

The project aims to address this issue and create more inclusive outdoor recreation opportunities.
