Genesis to Acquire Waikato Solar Project
Genesis Energy plans to acquire and develop a 271MWp solar project in Waikato, New Zealand.
The project, estimated to cost NZ$487 million (US$281 million), will generate 437GWh of electricity annually.
- Location: Upper North Island, between Auckland and Transpower's 220kV Glen Murray substation
- Integration: Solar generation with battery storage
- Expected operational date: 2029
Tracey Hickman, Chief Operating Officer, Genesis Energy, said the Rangiriri project is a key step in advancing the firm's Gen35 strategy.
The project will leverage Huntly's grid-scale battery and hydro assets to balance solar variability.
