Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, has made a request through his lawyers ahead of a court hearing.
Robinson's lawyers argue that if the request is not met, it could hinder the possibility of a fair trial. Robinson was arrested and charged with seven offenses, including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice, after Kirk was shot and killed at a Utah Valley University event on September 10.
A massive manhunt ensued, and the FBI announced an arrest less than two days later. The motive behind the killing is yet to be disclosed by officials.
If convicted, Robinson could face capital punishment, as Utah is one of five states that still uses a firing squad as a method of execution.
No official statement has been made regarding the request or the potential motive behind the killing.
