Rensselaer County has announced that it will no longer accept re-certification applications for the state-supported childcare assistance program due to a lack of funding from New York State.
According to the New York State Office for Children and Family Services (OCFS), Rensselaer County has not requested the available $558,232 supplemental funding. However, Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin disputes this claim, stating
"The state owes us an apology".
Rensselaer County provided an email to NewsChannel 13, showing that they had requested some of the funding from OCFS as early as 10/17/2025. OCFS has yet to confirm or deny this information.
