Wiedower Resigns, Special Election to be Held in December

Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.

His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election in December. Democrat Eric Gisler, currently running for the House seat in 2026, may also run in the special election.

This is not the first special election in Oconee's recent history. In 2017, special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick, resulting in Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez flipping both House seats.

No comment from Wiedower on the future of his political career.

Author's summary: Wiedower resigns from Georgia General Assembly.
