Elder Abuse and Neglect a Growing Concern

The senior adult population in the U.S. is growing, leading to a rise in instances of abuse and neglect among the elderly.

According to the latest census data, one in six people is aged 65 or older, making them the fastest-growing population in the U.S.

“We are concerned with both abuse and neglect,”

said John Christensen, a special investigator for the Missouri Division of Health and Senior Services. Christensen emphasized that instances of emotional, physical, and financial abuse are a daily occurrence.

Christensen advised loved ones to pay attention to warning signs, such as missing items like jewelry or guns, and large sums of money disappearing from homes or accounts.
