The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has launched a new initiative, "Reclaim, Restore, Rebuild", to heal lands devastated by illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
According to the EPA's Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, the government is determined to reclaim and rehabilitate landscapes ravaged by galamsey, which has stripped bare vast stretches of Ghana's forests, farmlands, and river systems.
"The reclamation project we're launching today is a step toward healing the land, restoring livelihoods, and rebuilding hope,"
Prof. Klutse said during the launch of a 2,000-hectare pilot reclamation project at Gyaman Nkwanta in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
