Prosecution of Sabotage Plot Under National Security Act

A group of men have been sentenced for an arson attack on a warehouse containing humanitarian aid and Starlink satellite equipment bound for Ukraine.

The attack, orchestrated by Dylan Earl, 20, and Jake Reeves, 23, caused approximately £1m in damages and repairs. The pair were recruited by the Russian mercenary organisation, the Wagner Group.

Earl and Reeves pleaded guilty to aggravated arson and offences under the National Security Act, also related to a plot to set fire to a critic of the Russian state's restaurant and kidnap him.

The new National Security Act 2023 is designed to tackle threats that fall short of traditional spying and espionage.
