The Nova Scotia government has approved a lease for the Whale Sanctuary Project, allowing the organization to operate and maintain a seaside sanctuary on an 83-hectare area of land and sea.
The 20-year lease is renewable for a second 20-year term. The province issued the order in council after receiving a report and recommendation from former natural resources minister Tory Rushton.
The approval “means that the Whale Sanctuary Project now has a clear path to begin construction and to raise the capital funds to complete the sanctuary and welcome the first whales.
The Whale Sanctuary Project is incorporated in the United States and has an office in Sherbrooke, Guysborough County.
