Central Alabama Water plans to stabilize the dam with a deep foundation before continuing the rehab project, after learning that no dye test has been conducted to test seepage since the 1980s.
The first phase of the project has hit a snag, with engineers finding that part of the dam's foundation is not strong enough to support additional concrete.
Central Alabama Water, formerly Birmingham Water Works, owns the 115-year-old dam and lake, which supplies water to a large portion of the utility's service area.
