First Non-Travel Case of Monkeypox Hits California
Monkeypox, also known as mpox, can spread easily between people in close contact or face-to-face, according to experts.
A resident of Long Beach has tested positive for the virus, which was first discovered in Denmark in the 1950s.
The virus can present with various symptoms, including rashes to fevers.
While typically non-fatal, some people are susceptible to severe infections, which can result in death, says the World Health Organization (WHO).
