According to a new report, most Indiana kids who need after-school programs cannot access them due to cost, transportation, and a lack of available options.
A survey by the Afterschool Alliance found that only 83,820 Hoosier children are enrolled in an after-school program, despite nearly half a million kids having parents who would like them to be.
“Right now, 411,972 Hoosier children whose families want them in afterschool programs don’t have access,” said Lakshmi Hasanadka, CEO of the Indiana Afterschool Network.
After-school programs provide a range of activities, including academic tutoring, STEM clubs, sports, arts, and mentoring, offering students a safe and structured environment after school.
The survey highlights the challenges Indiana parents face! in finding affordable and accessible after-school programs for their children.
