Long-time Voice of Worcester's Talking Newspaper Dies Suddenly

Barney Burnham, a long-time voice of Worcester's Talking Newspaper for the Blind, has died suddenly at the age of 74.

He was a familiar presence in the city, known for his community work, including rowing people across the River Severn as a regular oarsman of the Cathedral Ferry. Burnham was also an enthusiastic member of the local rugby community, both as a player and later as a supporter.

Barney always delivered perfect performances, whether reading straightforward articles for our talking newspaper, or taking quite demanding acting roles in our Audio Playhouse productions for the magazine. You could give him any text and know it was in safe hands. Barney was always in command of his material, articulate, sensitive and professional. Both we and our listeners will miss his performances.

said John Plush, producer of Worcester's talking magazine Look Hear.

Author's summary: Barney Burnham dies at 74.
