AJ Smith and Nick Dang, Virginia teammates, had their futures decided in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.

Smith had checked the draft results on a website during a Christmas party in Denmark, eventually seeing Dang's name announced.
When asked if he would be drafted, Smith replied,
“Nah, maybe next year, if I have a good season.”
