Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick discussed Deandre Ayton's role for the 2025-26 season.
Ayton is expected to be a key addition, filling the team's need for a big man. Despite being bought out by the Portland Trail Blazers, he was the top free agent center.
Although Ayton has struggled offensively in two preseason games, he has impressed defensively. Austin Reaves noted that the team needs to find ways to get Ayton involved in the offense.
I think it’s important for him to touch the basketball because we’re going to ask a lot of him as a screener and a rim runner and the anchor of our defense so there has to be some level of freedom.
