PA Systems and Screens Hacked at Kelowna and Victoria Airports

On Tuesday, October 14, flights at Kelowna and Victoria airports were delayed due to a cyber security incident.

The incident occurred when public address systems and screens were hacked with pro-Hamas messages at both Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) around 5 p.m.

"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging," said the airport in a press release just after 7 p.m. "It has also restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."

According to a post on Kelowna Reddit, the messaging was displayed for about two minutes and included phrases such as "Free Palestine" and cursing out the U.S.

The City of Kelowna stated that the cyber security incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
