Spencer Cox announced the appointment of Judge John Nielsen to the Utah Supreme Court, replacing outgoing Associate Chief Justice John Peace.
Cox selected Nielsen after reviewing dozens of applications and conducting hours of interviews to assess the candidates' judicial philosophy and temperament.
Cox is confident in his choice after examining many of Nielsen's arguments and decisions.
Nielsen was appointed to the 3rd District Court in September 2024, following his work in private ventures, including a joint firm with former Utah Associate Chief Justice Thomas Lee.
Nielsen now awaits confirmation from the Utah Senate to join the high court.
