My Connection to Metal-Organic Frameworks
Fernando Gomollón-Bel discusses his link to the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry winners.
The discovery of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been recognized with the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Upon hearing the news, Fernando Gomollón-Bel began reaching out to friends in the field, feeling a strange connection to the porous materials.
Although he never worked with MOFs in a lab, Gomollón-Bel first encountered them while preparing an article on IUPAC's Top Ten Emerging Technologies in Chemistry in 2019. During this time, he interviewed now Nobel laureate Omar Yaghi, who predicted a vast number of opportunities for MOFs.
