Families Seek Accountability for Police-Involved Shootings

Families of men killed by Topeka police officers in 2022 continue to ask the city for accountability and transparency.

Their loved ones are still seeking justice for the deaths of Taylor Lowery, Christopher Kelley, and Dylan Walstrom, who died during separate officer-involved shootings in 2022.

Everyday I don’t have a dad, due to our ‘supportive system,’ so it’s just emotional to carry on

- said Lah’Niyah Duncan Lowery, Taylor Lowery's daughter.

According to the attorney representing the families, LaRonna Lassiter-Saunders, the city's lack of acknowledgment and dismissal of the families' concerns has hindered their ability to find closure.

When you have city officials that have not acknowledged or dismissed and have acted as if the family is in the wrong for speaking out and trying to get justice

- Lassiter-Saunders said, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency.
