A suspected stolen Mercedes was caught on camera as it careened along a footpath after attempting to swerve a police stinger at speed.

According to reports, patrols had requested the driver to stop in Sturry Road, Canterbury, at around 10am on October 11, but the driver continued and hit three other cars before officers lost sight of him.

Footage from the scene shows police using a stinger device to try and stop the speeding Mercedes along the A28 Island Road, outside the Hoplands housing development.

The vehicle can be seen attempting to swerve the trap but its offside rear tyre appears to be clipped.

The incident highlights the dangers of high-speed police pursuits and the importance of driver safety.
