Tennessee Fishing Guide Catches Record Bass that Officials Say Shouldn't Be There

Tennessee Fishing Guide Catches Record Bass

A state-record fish was caught by Caleb Bell, certified by Tennessee officials as an Alabama bass, a subspecies of spotted bass considered invasive in Tennessee.

According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the fish was caught from Parksville Reservoir in Polk County and weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces.

“Unfortunately, Alabama Bass are an invasive species that was introduced illegally in Tennessee,”

The agency noted that this species shouldn’t be in Tennessee waters, but the catch has been recognized as a new state-record.

Caleb Bell’s catch surpassed the previous Alabama bass record by three ounces, which was caught in 2014 from the same lake.
