The closure is part of the Fifth St. Utility & Streetscape Project, the fourth and final phase of the project.
Starting on Tuesday, October 14, a portion of Fifth St. (near Memorial Bridge) will be down to one-way traffic heading west, away from Downtown Lynchburg and toward Memorial Ave.
The eastbound lane closure will detour drivers onto Langhorne Rd., then left onto Park Ave. This detour will be in place for the entirety of the project, including nights and weekends.
The construction is expected to last for 15 months, until December 2026, according to the city.
The Fifth Street Utility and Streetscape Project includes various improvements.
More info on the project can be found here.
