Addison Carey, a transition year student at Celbridge Community School in Kildare, has won a Gold Medal at the Eskom Expo International Science Fair in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Carey's project, Advancing Post-Quantum Lattice-based Cryptography by Developing Efficient Shortest Vector Problem Approaches, focuses on strengthening cybersecurity for a post-quantum society.
Quantum computers are way more powerful than traditional computers and therefore many current encryption methods to protect data and systems could be rendered obsolete by their roll-out.
Carey represented Ireland and SciFest at the fair, which is Africa’s largest science fair.
Author's summary: Kildare student wins gold medal for quantum cybersecurity project.
