Evacuation in Bethlehem Due to Unstable Ground
Two businesses in Bethlehem, Jiffy Lube and Hoffman’s Car Wash, located at 55 Delaware Ave., had to be evacuated on Sunday due to unstable ground conditions.
According to Bethlehem Town Attorney Jim Potter, a crack in the parking area, which has been present for over a year, has raised concerns about the slope's stability.
A geotechnical engineer has said the slope is borderline unstable.
Potter mentioned that additional rain could lead to the slope becoming unstable, and there are concerns about the potential impact on the parking lot if the slope fails.
Hoffman’s is taking steps to assess the situation, with their engineer set to review data related to the slope, as stated by Potter.
