Shoplifter Fined for Stealing Expensive Bottle of Rum
A 33-year-old man, Andrew Shepheard, was fined $500 and ordered to pay $90 in compensation for stealing a bottle of rum from Dan Murphy's Bathurst.
The shoplifter was caught on camera putting the bottle under his jumper and leaving without paying, Bathurst Local Court heard.
"An expensive bottle of rum, sergeant, because it comes with court costs,"
Magnitude of the sentence was emphasized by Magistrate Arthur Aguirre. The man had recently completed parole and entered a guilty plea in his absence.
