The National Assembly has proposed shifting the presidential and governorship election dates from February or March to November 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Naija News, this proposal is part of draft amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act, which currently requires elections to be held no later than 185 days before the incumbent's term expires on May 29.
A one-day public hearing by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Electoral Matters revealed the proposals on Monday.
The proposal aims to change the election schedule, as stipulated in the 2022 Electoral Act.
