Fuel loading under way at second Zhangzhou unit

Fuel Loading at Zhangzhou Unit 2

China National Nuclear Corporation has announced the start of fuel loading at unit 2 of the Zhangzhou nuclear power plant.

The process involves loading 177 fuel assemblies into the core of the reactor, which is the second of four Hualong One (HPR1000) reactors under construction at the site.

An operating licence for Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Unit 2 was issued by China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment on 11 October.

Dong Baotong, Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment and Director of the National Nuclear Safety Administration, issued the licence to Zhangzhou Energy.

Zhang Kai, member of the Party Group and Deputy General Manager of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), attended the event, where workers began loading the first reactor nuclear fuel at 16:13 on the same day.
