Wide Ukraine Electricity Outages As Crews Struggle To Repair Damage From Russian Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues urging Western nations to increase pressure on the Kremlin as the death toll rises from recent Russian strikes. Ukrainian authorities are working to restore power amid widespread outages caused by damage to the country’s energy infrastructure.

Kyiv and many regions across Ukraine have experienced long-lasting power cuts following the massive air attacks. According to the state energy company Ukrenergo, power supply was restricted in most regions for eight to sixteen hours on November 9, with additional consumption limits planned for November 10.

“The reason for the introduction of restrictions is the consequences of massive Russian missile and drone attacks on energy facilities,” the company said.
“It is difficult to recall such a large number of direct strikes on energy facilities since the beginning of the invasion,” Ukrenergo spokeswoman Svitlana Hrynchuk told Ukrainian media.

In his nightly video address, President Zelensky emphasized the continuous restoration efforts:

“Repair crews are working almost around the clock in most regions. Restoration efforts are ongoing, and although the situation is difficult, thousands of people are involved in stabilizing the system and repairing the damage.”

Even before the onset of cold weather, Russia intensified its campaign targeting Ukraine’s energy grid, natural gas facilities, and pipelines, aiming to cripple the country’s infrastructure and lower morale.
