Ian Leavers, a respected law-enforcement figure who led the Queensland Police Union for over 15 years and served as Cross-Border Commissioner, was found dead in his home on Monday morning.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) confirmed his unexpected death in a media statement:
“The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is deeply saddened to confirm the unexpected passing of Ian Leavers APM, Queensland Cross-Border Commissioner, former President of Queensland Police Union of Employees (QPUE) and former QPS member.”
“Leavers was located deceased around 9.50am this morning after police were called to a Mount Ommaney address.”
Authorities stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious, though investigations remain ongoing.
Leavers was remembered as a prominent and influential figure in Queensland law enforcement. Premier David Crisafulli highlighted his dedication and respect within the community:
“The 58-year-old had earned the respect of Queenslanders by always speaking his mind and defending the police service he loved.”
