Ian Leavers had a long-standing career with the Queensland Police, joining the force in 1989. Throughout his service, he worked across several departments, including the criminal investigation branch and the child investigation unit.
He served as the president and CEO of the Queensland Police Union for 15 years starting in 2009 and later led the Police Federation of Australia from 2021 until his resignation from both roles last year.
In August 2024, he was appointed Queensland's first Cross-Border Commissioner, where he collaborated with local councils, community groups, and businesses to support border communities.
