Brisbane striker Justin Vidic insists he does not have anything to prove to his former club Newcastle but is determined to demonstrate his quality after being released by the Jets last season.
Vidic spent two years with Newcastle, scoring only once in 13 A-League games, mostly coming off the bench. When Mark Milligan replaced Robbie Stanton as coach, the 21-year-old was not offered a new contract.
With his professional career at a crossroads, Vidic seized the chance to trial with Brisbane. His hard-working, traditional playing style fits well with Queensland club’s straightforward and physical tactics under coach Michael Valkanis, earning him a two-year deal.
“These things happen for a reason,” Vidic said ahead of the Roar-Jets match at Sunshine Coast Stadium. “I’m sure I’ll show my quality. I don’t think I have anything to prove to them. They know what I’m capable of, and there are lots of people at the club that I still speak to and that I’m still close to. They know my potential and I want to show them that on Sunday.”
This season Vidic has started two of Brisbane’s three matches and scored his first goal for the Roar in their 2-1 loss to Wellington last month. He added, “Starting in our past two games has been good for me.”
Justin Vidic is focused on proving his worth through consistent performance with Brisbane Roar after his release from Newcastle despite denying he has anything to prove to his former club.
