Question Ariarne Hasn’t Faced Since Shock Announcement

Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus opened up about the one question no one has asked her since she shocked the world by announcing her retirement from competitive swimming. The four-time Olympic gold medallist discussed the surprising reaction to her decision during an interview on the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About.

“I knew it would be a shock to a lot of people. It was quite out of the blue,”

she told host Sarrah Le Marquand, explaining that she didn’t anticipate the overwhelming attention her announcement would generate.

“The morning I hit post [on the announcement] at 8am Brisbane time, within half an hour, all over social media there were already articles and clips.”

Titmus added that, despite widespread curiosity, nobody had asked her the most fundamental question:

“I am at the top of my game, I’m still only 25, and I was concerned that the wider public wouldn’t understand my reasoning. But I haven’t had one person asking me why.”

She noted that she feels content with her accomplishments in the pool and ready to explore new opportunities. A major turning point, she said, came when she worked as a commentator during the World Championships in July, which helped her see life beyond competing.
