A group of residents in Brookmans Park, a village in Hertfordshire, England, celebrated an extraordinary win after their postal code AL9 6PT was drawn as the winner of the Millionaire Street prize in the People’s Postcode Lottery. The £1 million prize, about $1.3 million, was shared among seven neighbors who participated in the lottery’s monthly subscription.
Each participant with a ticket received approximately £83,333 ($109,000). The community was filled with excitement and gratitude as the news spread across Brookmans Park.
One of the winners, Samesh Kumari, a retired fashion business owner, took home one of the largest shares — £249,999 ($328,000) — as he had three tickets. He joined the lottery just four months earlier, inspired by the memory of his late mother, Chanchal Kumari.
“I think mum would be really proud,” he said. “I’ve only been playing for about four months, and winning so soon feels incredible. When I signed up, I was thinking about mum. This is extra special.”
The People’s Postcode Lottery encourages community participation by awarding prizes to multiple residents within a single postcode, enabling neighbors to celebrate together.
Residents of Brookmans Park shared a $1.3M lottery award, with one winner dedicating his fortune to his late mother, turning luck into a heartfelt tribute.
