Geelong's 2025 AFLW campaign concluded on Saturday night with a 14-point loss to Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium in the final home-and-away round.
The first half was tightly contested, but Melbourne pulled away in the third quarter, leveraging their offensive strength to secure a decisive lead. Although Geelong narrowed the margin late, it was insufficient to change the outcome.
The match provided an opportunity to honor three iconic players retiring at the season’s end: long-serving captain Meg McDonald, who had eight disposals; Kate Darby, with six disposals and four tackles; and Shelley Scott.
The Cats created numerous scoring chances early and dominated play around the ground. Aishling Moloney scored the opening goal, putting Geelong ahead by one point at quarter time.
Geelong's pressure in the first quarter was key, laying 12 more tackles than Melbourne (22-10), restricting the Demons to just one goal from 12 inside-50 entries.
Despite the close start and strong effort, Melbourne’s third-quarter surge sealed the result.
