Lucy Liu has embraced a fresh new look with a lob hairstyle, showcased in her upcoming drama Rosemead. The "Charlie's Angels" alum debuted this haircut, featuring a short side part that rests just above her collarbone, in the film's trailer.
The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 5. It follows the story of Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou), as they face challenges after Joe's schizophrenia diagnosis. The movie is based on a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong, titled
“A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son.”
This role marks a significant shift for Liu, who has been known for lighter, action-oriented projects such as Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu said in an interview with Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
At the movie’s premiere, Liu shared more about her interest in this project and similar stories during an interview with Parade.
Author’s summary: Lucy Liu debuts a new short lob haircut as she stars in the dramatic film Rosemead, marking a bold shift from her usual light-hearted roles to intense, character-driven storytelling.
