PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women's basketball team lost its home opener Tuesday night, falling 68-60 to Drexel at the Petersen Events Center.
Four Panthers made their first starts for Pitt. Johnson was joined by transfers Jones and Diakhate, alongside Jayda Queeley and Megan Hollingsworth, who also earned their first collegiate starts.
Six Pitt players scored in the opening quarter as the Panthers held a 14-12 lead after ten minutes. Drexel outpaced Pitt 18-13 in the second quarter, taking a 30-27 advantage into halftime. Pitt bounced back with a 22-point third quarter, tying the game at 49 entering the final period.
In the fourth quarter, both teams exchanged baskets until a late three-pointer by Drexel pushed the Dragons ahead by five. Drexel sealed the victory going 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the last 21 seconds.
