Air traffic at Brussels Airport was briefly suspended late Tuesday as a safety measure after a drone was spotted, Belgian media reported.
“Just before eight o’clock (1900GMT), there was a report of a drone over the airport grounds," said Kurt Verwilligen, spokesperson for Belgian air navigation and traffic service provider Skeyes, according to RTL and Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN).
After about 30 minutes, Skeyes announced that air traffic had begun to resume.
Liege Airport also closed temporarily and diverted flights to Maastricht following drone sightings.
Local residents reported seeing six drones near Kleine-Brogel Air Base. Police visually confirmed the presence of two drones, as reported by HLN.
Belgium has seen similar drone sightings on the previous Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
According to HLN, “Police were able to make two visual confirmations of drones” near the military base.
Summary: Drone sightings near Belgian airports and a military base prompted temporary closures and flight diversions, reflecting heightened security concerns in recent days.
